Jammu, India – Veteran BJP leader Sat Pal Sharma has been elected unopposed as the new president of the Jammu and Kashmir BJP unit. This marks his second term as the party’s Jammu and Kashmir chief. Sharma, born into a Dogra family in Jammu, is a chartered accountant by profession and previously served as a Cabinet minister in the PDP-BJP coalition government.

Election Process and Support

Sharma filed his nomination papers as part of the ongoing Sangathan Parv, the BJP’s national-level organisational elections. He was the only candidate to submit papers for the president’s post, and the election was conducted under the supervision of Sanjay Bhatia, a former MP from Haryana.

At the event, Sharma expressed gratitude to the leadership at all levels for their trust and support, and called on party workers to help strengthen the organisation. He emphasized that the party’s recent electoral success with the highest vote share in the assembly election was a result of collective effort and commitment.

Leadership Vision and Achievements

In his new role, Sharma aims to further empower the BJP in the region. “Together, we can make this party stronger in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said, stressing the importance of collective strength in building the party’s influence and serving the people of the Union Territory. Sharma also mentioned that he was appointed as the head of the party unit in November and will now continue his efforts to improve the party’s performance.

Background and Career

Sat Pal Sharma, 63, made his political debut in 2014 by winning the Jammu West Assembly constituency on a BJP ticket. He also held the post of Cabinet Minister between 2015 and 2018, during which time he contributed significantly to the state’s political landscape.

He now replaces Ravinder Raina, who served as BJP’s J&K unit president for six-and-a-half years. Raina has been appointed to the party’s national executive following his term as president.

Party Leadership’s Remarks

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and other senior BJP leaders, including Sunil Sharma, Ashok Kaul, and Shrikant Sharma, were present to support Sharma during his election. Dr. Singh praised Sharma’s leadership, stating that under his guidance, BJP workers will unlock their full potential for the growth of the country, and that the contributions of J&K’s BJP workers will be recognized nationwide.
