Amid rising political tensions, National Conference (NC) leader Salman Sagar has emphasized that it is the Speaker’s responsibility to decide whether any bill or resolution in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly is unconstitutional or anti-national. His remarks come in response to the BJP’s demand to disallow certain resolutions, including those related to Article 370.

Sagar stated that the Speaker, along with legal experts and the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, ensures that no unconstitutional or anti-national bill is introduced in the House. He accused the BJP of making such statements merely to score political points.

The controversy arose after People’s Conference (PC) president Sajad Gani Lone submitted a resolution seeking condemnation of the abrogation of Article 370 and 35(A) and demanded the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s pre-August 2019 constitutional status. The BJP strongly opposed this resolution, insisting that no such discussion should be allowed in the Assembly.

This debate highlights the ongoing political divide in Jammu and Kashmir. While some leaders continue to demand the restoration of special status, the BJP remains firm on its stance against any reversal of the constitutional changes made in 2019.

The final decision rests with the Speaker, who has the authority to determine whether a bill or resolution aligns with the Constitution and parliamentary procedures.
