In a strong condemnation of caste-based politics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday accused certain opposition factions of attempting to divide Indian society for their own gain. Speaking at the 200th anniversary of the Shree Swaminarayan Temple in Vadtal, Gujarat, PM Modi stressed the importance of national unity in overcoming these challenges. He warned that divisive forces, focusing on caste, religion, and language, were undermining India’s path to becoming a developed nation by 2047.
The Prime Minister’s remarks come amid the Congress-led Opposition’s push for a caste census, with PM Modi accusing them of sowing discord among the people. He emphasized the need for solidarity against these “national enemies,” highlighting the risk of fragmenting society on issues of caste, religion, and regional differences.
PM Modi’s ‘Ek Hain, Toh Safe Hain’ Slogan Gains Momentum
During his speech, PM Modi reiterated his slogan, “Ek hain, toh safe hain” (Together, one is safe), calling for a united India. He claimed that the opposition, particularly the Congress party, was deliberately fueling caste-based divisions for political advantage. Drawing attention to past Congress policies, Modi pointed out how the party had opposed OBC (Other Backward Classes) reservations and has now created internal divisions within these communities.
He further accused Congress of “hating” OBCs, pointing to the loss of their political dominance after OBCs united in the 1990s. Modi argued that attempts to divide communities were not only detrimental to India’s unity but also to its development as a nation.
