On January 6, 2025, Kashmir witnessed fresh snowfall in several regions, including Poonch, Srinagar, and other higher altitudes. The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar, remained close to freezing temperatures for the second consecutive day as the region experienced another spell of winter. Snowfall also covered areas in Bandipora, Baramulla, and Kupwara districts in the northern part of Kashmir, as well as parts of Budgam and Ganderbal districts in central Kashmir.

The region is currently experiencing Chillai-Kalan, the coldest and harshest phase of winter, which started on December 21. During these 40 days, the probability of snowfall is highest, and temperatures significantly drop, creating a winter wonderland throughout Kashmir. This period is crucial for the Kashmir Valley, as it is marked by heavy snow, contributing to the region’s beautiful winter scenery.
