India’s Strong Stand at the United Nations Security Council

India has firmly reiterated its position on Jammu and Kashmir, declaring that the region “was, is, and will always be an integral part of India.” This strong statement was delivered by India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, at the UN Security Council (UNSC) Open Debate on March 24, 2025.

India Condemns Pakistan’s Attempts to Internationalize Kashmir Issue

During the UNSC debate on Advancing Adaptability in UN Peace Operations, Pakistan once again raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir. In response, Ambassador Harish dismissed Pakistan’s claims as “illegal and baseless,” urging Islamabad to “vacate” its occupation of the region.

Pakistan Accused of State-Sponsored Terrorism

Harish strongly condemned Pakistan’s repeated references to Kashmir, stating that such attempts neither validate its “illegitimate claims” nor justify its state-sponsored cross-border terrorism. He further advised Pakistan to “refrain from diverting the forum’s attention for its divisive agenda.”

India’s Diplomatic Stance: No Engagement in Pakistan’s Political Agenda

India chose not to invoke its Right of Reply, signaling its unwillingness to engage in Pakistan’s “propaganda-driven agenda.” Instead, the focus remained on addressing global peace operations and security challenges.

Background: India’s Revocation of Article 370

Tensions between India and Pakistan have remained high since August 5, 2019, when India revoked Article 370, removing Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and reorganizing it into two Union Territories. Since then, India has maintained that any dialogue with Pakistan can only occur in an environment free of terrorism, hostility, and violence.

India’s Message to the Global Community

With this firm stand at the UN, India has once again reinforced its position that Jammu and Kashmir is an inseparable part of the country and that Pakistan’s attempts to internationalize the issue hold no legitimacy on the global stage.
