Jammu and Kashmir BJP leaders have called for strict action against PDP president Mehbooba Mufti over her recent remarks comparing the situation in Bangladesh to India, labeling them as “anti-national.”

During a party function on Sunday, former Jammu and Kashmir BJP president Ravinder Raina criticized Mufti’s statements, calling them “wrong and condemnable.” He highlighted human rights violations in Bangladesh, including targeted attacks on minorities, harassment of women, and the forced exile of an elected prime minister.

BJP Demands Serious Action

Raina urged the Jammu and Kashmir administration to “take serious note” of Mehbooba Mufti’s comments, describing them as conspiratorial and detrimental to national unity. “Action must be taken against her to maintain the region’s stability,” he added.

This demand follows the termination of two government employees with alleged terror links by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, a move that BJP leaders praised. They stressed the need for continued actions to dismantle the terror ecosystem in the Union Territory.

Mehbooba Mufti’s Statement

Addressing party workers in Jammu, Mufti called for unity against what she described as “BJP’s polarizing agenda.” She questioned, “If we oppress minorities here in India, what sets us apart from Bangladesh?” and emphasized India’s reputation as a secular nation known for its inclusive character.

Her remarks drew sharp criticism from BJP leaders, who accused her of trying to provoke communal sentiments to revive her party after poor performance in the recent assembly elections.

Opposition’s Response

Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma accused Mufti of using provocative statements to mislead people and regain political relevance. “There is no comparison between Bangladesh and India. Muslims in India, especially in J&K, are safe and secure,” he stated.

Sharma also supported the government’s crackdown on individuals with terror links, describing it as a “necessary step to eliminate separatist activities.”

Criticism of Hurriyat Leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq

Sharma also condemned the statement by Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, who had called for reinstating dismissed employees. He accused Farooq of promoting separatist ideology and siding with anti-national elements.

“The government’s actions against terror-linked individuals are praiseworthy, and such efforts must continue to uproot terrorism completely,” Sharma added.

Conclusion

Mehbooba Mufti’s remarks have sparked significant backlash from BJP leaders, who are calling for stringent measures to counter such statements. The controversy highlights the ongoing political and security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir, as efforts to maintain stability in the region continue.
