Damage Report
Union Minister Jitendra Singh reported that the National Highway-44, a railway track, and a police station sustained significant damage. He stated that civilian administration, military, and paramilitary teams have mobilized to assist the affected areas.
“The situation is being continuously monitored,” Singh said on X (formerly Twitter), offering condolences to the families of the deceased.
Chief Minister’s Response
Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief over the incident and directed authorities to carry out relief and rescue operations. His office reported:
“The tragic loss of lives and damages caused by landslides in Kathua, including Jodh Khad and Juthana, claimed four lives and left many injured. The government assures all necessary support and aid.”

Officials also warned that the Ujh River is approaching the danger mark, and water levels in other areas are rising rapidly.
Previous Kishtwar Cloudburst
Earlier this week, a cloudburst in Kishtwar claimed over 50 lives and injured more than 100 people. The tragedy occurred during the Machail Mata pilgrimage in Chisoti, with at least 82 people still missing.
The pilgrimage trek, which started on July 25, spans 8.5 km to reach the 9,500-foot shrine and was scheduled to end on September 5.
Rescue Operations
The Indian Army and local authorities are actively conducting search and rescue operations, providing food, shelter, and medical aid to affected families. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and follow official instructions.
