Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary strongly opposed the recent remarks made by former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti regarding the region’s current political climate.
Choudhary Holds Mufti Responsible for J&K’s Issues
Ahead of the ongoing J&K Assembly Budget Session, Choudhary responded to Mufti’s statements, saying, “Mehbooba Mufti can say anything, but she is responsible for the downfall of J&K. The loss of statehood and special status happened because of her.”
He further stated that the present government owes accountability to the people, not to Mufti.
Recalls Controversial Statement on Pellet Gun Victims
Referring to a past incident, Choudhary reminded people of Mufti’s insensitive response to concerns over children’s safety.
“She is the same Mehbooba Mufti who, when questioned about the use of pellet guns against children, responded sarcastically, asking if they were going to buy milk and toffees from security camps,” he recalled.
PDP MLA Waheed Para Criticizes LG’s Budget Address
Meanwhile, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Waheed Para voiced his disappointment over Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s budget speech. He claimed the speech ignored crucial issues like unemployment, job security, and political prisoners.
“After years, J&K finally has a government, and we expected the budget to reflect the people’s aspirations. However, this was just another routine document from the LG, repeated for the last five years,” Para stated.
LG Sinha Stresses Commitment to J&K’s Statehood
During the inaugural session of the J&K Legislative Assembly’s Budget Session, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring statehood and engaging stakeholders in the process.
Sinha emphasized that the budget aims for participatory governance, keeping public needs at the core of policymaking.
The political landscape in Jammu & Kashmir remains dynamic, with strong opposing views on governance and the region’s future. The debate over statehood, security, and economic reforms continues to shape J&K’s political discourse.
