In a tragic development, 17 people from three families in the remote Badhaal village of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district have died under mysterious circumstances. A high-level inter-ministerial team, led by a director-rank officer from the Ministry of Home Affairs, is investigating the cause of these deaths, which have raised significant concern.

Cause of Deaths – Investigations and Findings

Preliminary investigations suggest that the deaths were not caused by any communicable diseases, such as bacterial or viral infections. The investigation has revealed that neurotoxins were found in the deceased’s samples, leading to the belief that these harmful substances might have caused the fatalities. Neurotoxins can severely affect the nervous system, leading to symptoms such as paralysis, numbness, memory loss, and behavioral changes.

Toxic Water Source – Pesticides Found in Village Spring

Further investigation revealed that the local spring, which served as the water source for the village, tested positive for pesticides and insecticides. Authorities sealed the spring to prevent any further exposure to the toxic water. The government has also initiated strict containment measures to prevent additional fatalities and ensure the safety of the remaining villagers.

Government Actions and Ongoing Probe

Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo has directed local health and police departments to take immediate steps in containing the situation. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is also working to uncover the source and nature of the neurotoxins involved.

Authorities are focused on resolving the issue and ensuring no further harm to the community while the investigation continues.
